Minutes of General Meeting
May 27, 2008

Welcome

  • Gary Stackhouse was acknowledged as new to our meeting.
  • No new items were added to the agenda from the floor.

Old Business

  • Tourism Office will not be coming to clean the river for us. Instead Juan Ventura has arranged w ith Perla Parra to have their machines clean the river of construction material. Amigo's volunteers will walk the river picking up garbage by hand prior the machine work. We will meet at the plaza at 8:00 on Wednesday to collect garbage in barrels and then give it to the regular garbage service in town. The garbage truck collects garbage on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We will determine what the next steps should be after Wednesday's test run.
  • Ana reported that the brochures are in final review and then will be sent for printing.

Treasury Report

  • No change from last report - $37,000 pesos.

Committee Reports

  • Environmental

    Nothing to report

  • Garbage

Much discussion from floor on garbage.

Ron says that it is not a solution to pickup garbage and put up signs. We must have an area for designated dumping, otherwise people will have no where to put garbage.

Manuel says trash service is good. There needs to be a place for construction trash.

Juan says he sends construction trash to places that need fill. Why not advise other builders to do the same?

Bill thinks their should be more stops on the town garbage route.

Gary says everyone dumps trash at Los Venados.

Gary says we should talk with merchants about dumping of garbage. We need to train and educate merchants on the proper way of disposing of garbage.

Manuel bought 6 more plastic garbage containers and will be reimbursed by Amigos.

  • Recycling

Gary would like to volunteer for the recycling committee.

David suggested the recycling committee go to Sayulita, San Pancho, and La Peņita to find out about their recycling programs. The recycling committee can then come up with recommendations for a Lo de Marcos' recycling program.

Werner suggested wire mesh containers to collect plastic, glass, and metal. We can collect and transport to San Pancho for recycling.

  • Membership

Jacque reported a total of 93 members (28 Mex, 37 US, 27 Can, 1 Unidentified).

  • Signs

Lupita sent a letter to Riviera Nayarit Tourism for more "Don't Throw Garbage" signs.

  • Website

David reported that they hope to have the website done within 2 weeks.

We will send an email to our members announcing the new website. We will ask if we can include their names on our members list on the website. We will put names on the members list only if they respond "yes". This is out of respect for the privacy of our members. Jacque will send out the email since she is the keeper of the email addresses of our members.

New Business

  • Dulce met with the officers at the last officer's meeting to explain the legal charter of Amigos de Lo de Marcos. If any members have questions about the legal charter, they may ask any of the officers.

Meeting adjourned

  • Fourteen people attended the meeting including officers.
