Minutes of General Meeting
April 13, 2010

Welcome

  • All in attendance were welcomed. David Graff informed the group that Mitchell Schilling was taken to Mezcales for an operation this evening. He, his wife Vicki, and friend, Gladys Murphy, were injured in an accident this past Saturday.

Old Business

  • General discussion about the Semana Santa holiday but no major issues or concerns.

Treasurer's Report

  • Balance of $66,213.50. Since Judith Romiti is leaving Lo de Marcos for the summer, authorized funds for committee work were disbursed to committee chairpeople. They need to return the envelopes in the fall with receipts for expenditures and any remaining funds. Many chairpeople were not present, and David assumed responsibility for distributing the envelopes.

Delegado / President Report

  • Lo de Marcos days are coming up; copies of the schedule are available and the information will be posted on the website and/or distributed by email. The President of the Citizens Action Committee, Victor Carrillo, requested a contribution from Amigos for the community dinner on Lo de Marcos Day, Sunday, April 25. Funds for the entire celebration are collected from each household and this is the first time the Amigos organization has been asked to contribute. The Officers will make the decision but input was requested from those attending. Individuals may also contribute regardless of Amigos decision.

Committee Projects for 2010

  • Only those committees with reports are listed.
  • Schools

    $1,500 allocated.

Three outdoor lunch tables were constructed during the Semana Santa holiday as well as installation of the exterior doors to the bathrooms. Remaining projects are for the secondary school. No funds allocated for the preschool at this point.

  • Health Clinic

    $3,000 allocated for additional supplies.

$2,700 has been spent and supplies delivered to the Clinic.

  • Drainage

    $4,300 allocated.

The first samples have been taken to LaPenita for testing.

  • Animal Protection and Control

Three of four projects have been completed. Funds for the large animal trap will be allocated in the fall as funds are available. The recent clinic was a huge success with 85 animals registered and 82 neutered. Volunteers expressed their appreciation for the clinic and their joy from participation.

  • Security

    $2,000 allocated

  • Community Outreach

    $1,500 allocated.

A social is planned for May – the last one before the rainy season.

  • Senior Center

$6,000 allocated for meals and emergency funds.

  • Recycle

    $20,000 allocated.

1.2 tons of recyclable plastic was collected during Semana Santa! Three people collect recyclables from street containers on Saturday and Wednesday mornings. It takes about 2.5 hours. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Vicki Schilling at 327-275-0183..

  • Garbage

    $12,000 allocated.

Eleven metal bases have been made and 30 containers have been ordered. The committee is in discussions with Girrsa, the garbage company, and Nestor Palomera, the delegado. We would like to retain the four large dumpsters and placement locations need to be identified.

  • Sports

    $3,000 allocated.

  • Officers Discretionary Fund

    $600 allocated for website hosting.

New Business

  • We remain $40,000 short of projected budget. David described his idea for community tours in the fall to showcase Amigos projects to encourage contributions.

Sasha Lannon Kenny & Jacque Graff are the co-chairpeople for the 2011 Fund Raising event. If you would like to help, please email fundraiser@amigosdelodemarcos.org. Thank you!

Additional volunteers are needed to help transport Seniors to their Wednesday afternoon meetings since the golf cart & driver are out of commission. Twenty to thirty people are picked up around 2pm and returned to their homes at 5pm. Vans work well. Please contact Pat Murphy at 327-275-0012 if you're able to help. Amigos meetings will be held through July.

Meeting adjourned

  • Fourteen people attended the meeting including two officers of Amigos.
