COLLECTION BINS for PLASTIC

The rallying call went out to Amigos from Vicki Schilling, Chair of the Recycling Committee. She needed volunteers to help build collection bins for plastic – the first phase of the Amigo’s recycling project.

After consulting with organizations in the area that have been using wire recycling bins, Vicki received authorization from Amigos de Lo de Marcos to purchase materials to make seven bins. She built a prototype, pre-cut all the wire (Mitchell & Patrick!), made the signs and put out a call for help on Wednesday afternoon.



Amigos Volunteers were greeted with a brief tutorial on the proper installation of zip ties – long ones and short ones – how to bend the wire for strength and safety and how to attach those pesky wire bottoms. For the next hour and a half, Amigos chatted, bent and twisted their way through the construction of all the bins! The volunteers had a good time and the work was completed – just like that!
